WORK WITH ME

Have you ever been compared to someone and you didn’t think it was very flattering? Or perhaps you’ve been told you’re too loud or too quiet, too much or not enough?
There’s a fine line between constructive criticism and the need for everyone to look and act a certain way in order for others to feel comfortable.
Between growing up in a culture that puts pressure on children to conform to societal norms and working in a corporate environment that cares more about image than well-being (which I personally believe kills innovation), it’s hard to find professionals that have a strong sense of who they really are, let alone what makes them special.
This topic really hits home for me.
I often struggled with my personality because I received negative feedback about it as a child. I wasn’t girly enough. I wasn’t humble enough. I wasn’t quiet and demure likely a young lady should be.
At the same time, I’ve been rewarded for it in my professional career because my personality is similar to the men in charge. And that’s often left me feeling alienated from women.
If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t quite fit in and you’ve tried to change in order to make others feel more comfortable, then you’re going to want to listen to this week’s podcast episode.
I share my favorite personality tests, embarrassing results (the Darth Vader comparison is only part of the story), and struggle to embrace the parts that others have rejected.
If you’re on an Apple device, you can listen HERE. Otherwise, you can listen and download at the podcast website — click HERE.
After you’ve listened to the episode, leave a comment below and let me know if you’ve ever tried to pretend to be someone you’re not in order to fit in and be accepted in corporate culture? Then let me know how you plan to embrace more of who you are instead of trying to hide the embarrassing parts…
I read and comment on every post so come join the discussion!
