WORK WITH ME

Want to attend the Fall Retreat at Miraval for free? Need to reign in your non-billable hours?
I’ve got you covered on both fronts!
First up…
Life & Law in Balance Scholarship
On this Friday, I’ll have the honor of announcing the lucky lady who will get her entire registration fee waived.
I teamed up with a prior attendee to fund a scholarship to the Life & Law in Balance Retreat and I’ve been so moved by the applications received thus far.
If you’ve been wanting to attend the retreat but can’t swing the cost, be sure to check out the scholarship details and apply on or before this Thursday, August 10. Apply here.
And if you know someone you think would be the perfect fit for the retreat, please forward her this email and encourage her to apply!
It is truly life-changing and I can’t wait to gift this to an amazing attorney.
Next up…
Non-billable Purgatory
Do you find yourself doing way more non-billable work than others? You’re on every firm committee, bar committee, non-profit board, and CLE panel out there?
Maybe you spend hours on non-billable projects only to find yourself behind on your billable work… which then requires you to spend more time in the office or pick your work back up at night?
Do you get frustrated and resentful that others aren’t pulling their weight? Or feel pressured into saying yes because people push back or make you feel guilty when you try to say no?
If so, it’s time for a non-billable intervention.
There’s no way to eliminate “non-billables” completely (even if you go in-house or work for the government, there’s still non-substantive, admin work to be done that keeps you from doing your real work).
But you should be planning for them just as you would your substantive work.
Otherwise, it can completely overwhelm you and prevent you from having any balance.
Then there are unintentional consequences…
You might even get bad performance reviews and less compensation than your counterparts who are focused more on their substantive obligations.
So how do you “give back” without being taken advantage of?
You plan ahead, of course!
In this week’s podcast episode, I cover in detail how to plan for your non-billables so that you don’t neglect your billables… and, most importantly, still have a life!
I also created a worksheet to help you start planning. Be sure to download your free copy by clicking the button below and work through the questions after you listen to the episode.
Wishing you a wonderful week – and best of luck to all the scholarship applicants!
